Designing Domestication

This studio investigates domestication as an anthropogenic technology that spatializes landscape. Domesticating the zebra, my project explores the speculative landscapes, economies, and geographies of domestication.

This speculative system aims to investigate and engage patterns, from the controlled migratory patterns to the bioengineering of behavioral and hide patterns. It relies on the charisma of the zebra and contemplates the tension between it as an exoticized fixture of a western colonial imaginary and a potentially adapted species whose artificial insertion facilitates ranching and conservation systems. As a counter-factual narrative, the project engages the large-scale geospatial dynamics of domesticating the zebra and the spectacle that ensues.
